한국 최초 무역 1조 달러 기념 조형물 The $1 Trillion Trade Landmark of Korea

대한민국 무역 규모 1조 달러 달성을 기념하여 2012년 삼성동 무역센터(COEX)에 '트릴리언 타워(Trillion Tower)'가 건립되었다. 높이 13.5m, 지름 4.3m의 씨앗 모양 수직 구조물인 이 타워는 무역 대국으로 성장한 대한민국의 위상과 미래 비전을 상징한다. 타워 표면에는 주요 교역 국가명과 교역액 데이터를 활용한 패턴이 새겨져 있으며, 기단부에는 한국 무역의 성장사가 기록되어 있다. In 2012, the 'Trillion Tower' was erected at the World Trade Center Seoul to commemorate South Korea reaching $1 trillion in trade volume. Standing 13.5 meters tall with a 4.3-meter diameter, this seed-shaped vertical structure symbolizes Korea’s rise as a global trade powerhouse. The surface is inscribed with data representing major trading partners and their respective trade volumes, while the base documents the history of Korea's trade growth.

플러스플라스틱은 교역 데이터를 패턴화하기 위한 파라메트릭 디자인 및 구조 설계를 위한 3D 모델링을 수행하였다. 특히 입력된 데이터를 전용 폰트 수치로 자동 생성하는 기능을 RhinoScript로 구현하여, 수만 개의 숫자가 간섭 없이 돌출되도록 정밀하게 제어하였다. 생성된 패턴은 3D 곡면에 매핑된 후 제작을 위해 개별 패널로 분할되었으며, 각 알루미늄 패널은 CNC 밀링 가공을 통해 정교하게 완성되었다. PlusPlastic was responsible for the parametric design—generating complex patterns based on trade data—and 3D modeling for structural engineering. We developed a custom RhinoScript function to convert raw trade data into geometric figures using custom-designed fonts, ensuring each digit was extruded without intersection. The generated patterns were mapped onto the 3D surface and segmented into individual aluminum panels, which were subsequently fabricated using precision CNC milling.
